First European show for Lankhorst and Sureline Maritime Rope Safety Initiative

First system to provide real-time data on rope tensioning

Lankhorst Ropes will be demonstrating Sureline®, the first system to provide crews with real-time rope tension data during mooring and towage operations, on stand 108, Hall A1 at SMM 2024 in Hamburg. Manufactured by Sensor Technologies, the Sureline remote rope tension sensor improves crew safety and enables long-term monitoring of rope tensioning for more accurate rope retirement planning.

Lankhorst Ropes has partnered with Advantec Maritime Safety to offer 'Sureline' to the worldwide maritime industry. The Lankhorst Ropes initiative is in line with maritime industry efforts to increase crew safety through developments such as the OCIMF's MEG4 Mooring Equipment Guidelines and the IMO's 'Guidelines for Inspection and Maintenance of Mooring Equipment including Lines'.

Lankhorst Sureline – Real-time Rope Monitoring

The pen-shaped Sureline sensor is easily installed in the core of the Lankhorst rope in around 1 minute. Via an on-vessel display, it provides crews with the ability to precisely monitor the performance of each rope, including rope tension, rope angle, slew angle and peak loads, as it is being used.

During mooring, Sureline allows the rope's tension to be monitored and adjusted to ensure it remains within the safe working load. For towage, Sureline helps the tug master avoid over-tensioning the tow line above their preset limit.

“As well as improving crew safety Lankhorst Sureline gives operators the tools they need to monitor the ropes on every vessel across their fleet,” says Jacco van Snippenberg, Sales Director Towage & Salvage, Lankhorst Ropes. “For each rope it's possible to review its length of service, time under load and peak loads allowing operators to maximize rope service life, and plan rope retirement to minimize any service disruption.”

Also at SMM 2024…

The Lankhorst Ropes stand at SMM will also feature the industry leading Tipto Winchline together with Euroflex and many more mooring and towage ropes manufactured by Lankhorst in Europe. These ropes set the standard for quality and performance in the maritime industry.
